Our beloved Avodah service on Yom Kippur reclaims the physicality of Yom Kippur worship. Liz Lerman, an award winning choreographer and MacArthur genius grant recipient, is a long-time member of Temple Micah. She has been helping us to explore the intersection of movement, prayer, and ritual; our service will incorporate responses to the Elul readings, experimenting with the interplay between text and tech.
Every year, a team of congregants help lead us in movement.

The Temple Micah choir has been a source of great beauty, meaning, and pride in our community for many years, and music during our High Holy Day services elevates the worship experience for all of us. New members welcome! No previous experience is necessary, and extra guidance is available for those who may be new to choral singing. (If you’d like, we will pair you with a buddy from your voice part — Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass — to make sure you are comfortable with the music.)

All in-person services will take place at National United Methodist Church, located at 3401 Nebraska Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. Be sure to leave ample travel time, whether you choose to park nearby, rideshare, or take public transit.
Parking at NUMC is extremely limited. We encourage the use of public transportation options for those who are able.
MetroBuses N2, N6, and M6 stop right in front of the church at the New Mexico Ave and Nebraska Ave intersection.
The church is located 1 mile from the Tenleytown station on the WMATA Red Line.
Street parking is available in the nearby neighborhoods. Recommended streets include: 44th St, 45th St, Macomb St, Lowell St, Klingle St, and Cathedral Ave. Be aware of parking signage with time limits.
Parking in the church lot is fully booked; however, there are a number of close spots. We recommend arriving early to secure one of the 16 spots on Macomb St. The American University parking garage listed below is directly across the street, meaning it is a short and flat walk.

Temple Micah remains committed to taking appropriate measures to keep everyone safe and meaningfully engaged in services. Our policies are driven by our belief that we are all responsible for each other.
If you feel sick or are experiencing coughing or sneezing — even if you receive a negative COVID PCR test — please stay home and make plans to join us online.
We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 conditions and expert guidance, and we will be consulting with our medical experts as we approach the High Holy Days. We will make any needed adjustments to our policies and protocols as we get closer to the holidays to ensure we are responsive to the most current information.
We also will offer Temple Micah members a variety of options—from indoor services in the sanctuary, outdoor services in the tent, and online streaming— to participate in the way that feels most comfortable for them.
Facemasks
Facemasks are optional, though they are strongly encouraged in the sanctuary and within the church building. We will have supplies of masks at the entrances to the services.
Vaccinations
All individuals six-months of age and older must be vaccinated. Thank you for attesting to your vaccination status upon registration; we will NOT be checking vaccinations cards at the door.
Distancing
If any persons are uncomfortable with the seating options within the sanctuary, they are welcome to participate in the outdoor service in the tent, which is intended for both adults and school age children. In addition, the Great Hall will be set up as overflow seating. There, participants may watch the livestream of the sanctuary service.
It depends on the service you would like to attend. This year, registration to attend our in-person Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah morning, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur morning services are open to members who have pledged for the 2022-2023 membership year, along with their non-member guests.
