This discussion is quickly approaching and now we have two Micah scholars in conversation on this book. Buy Friday Black from a local bookstore or borrow it from your neighborhood library now!  Micah members Gayle Wald and Andrea Levine will discuss this book as they lead us in a study of this award winning short story collection by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. Learn more.

Last November, Micah member Dr. Gayle Wald led us in a fascinating discussion of Paul Beatty’s novel The Sellout. Many of those present requested another session with Professor Wald on another book. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we were forced to postpone in April but we happy to have rescheduled this discussion before the end of the year! Dr. Andrea Levine will join Dr. Wald in a conversation on Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah.

This collection of short stories, selected for us by Dr. Wald, would seem to be an excellent follow up to The Sellout, as the author of Friday Black explores themes surrounding black identity as it relates to a range of contemporary social issues. Adjei-Brenyah has been named one of the “5 Under 35 Authors” for 2018, by the National Book Foundation.

We encourage you to mark the date and read the book in advance of this virtual gathering.

Dr. Gayle Wald is a professor or English and African American Literature at George Washington University.

Dr. Andrea Levine taught writing and multi-ethnic literatures at George Washington University for many years.
